We've reached out to our community to bring to you some of the coolest folks around. Let's get to know Shelly Ryder!

BE: Tell us a bit about yourself:
SR: I am an emerging contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in walking and sketching as a means of exploration and connection with the environment. My work combines abstract landscapes with mathematical concepts like the Vedic Square and Fibonacci sequence, using geometry to evoke a sense of order, balance, and wonder.

BE: What would you say is your biggest anti burnout tip to avoid struggling with your practice?
SR: I prioritise self-care and establish specific work hours in which to create, read, research etc. This helps me to find a balance with an emphasis on getting enough sleep every night. No burning the midnight oil! (even when I really want to!)

BE: Can you give us a taste of a project you're currently working on and are excited about?
SR: [I'm working on a] Guided walk and sketch inviting participants to slow down and explore moments of awe and wonder within their surroundings. Through a quiet, reflective walk and the use of sketchbooks, participants are encouraged to engage with the environment in new ways—capturing details, patterns, and emotions through sketches, words, and observations. The practice fosters mindfulness, creativity, and connection to overlooked beauty in everyday spaces, turning moments of discovery into personal, creative expressions.
